Renewables: Uruguay points to a production green to 50%

It comes from the fact the government project that aims to get 50% of its energy from renewable sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower costs and reduce the production and release of pollutants belonging to the energy sector.

Economist Paula Cobas the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines said that if the revolution concern the power grid that mark from 50% must go up to 90%. Specifically, the expert said that the country plans, by 2015, producing 30% of the national energy from wind power and 20% from biomass. But the initiative also includes the exploitation of other sources ecological, such as geothermal and tidal power.

Cobas noted that Uruguay has installed nearly 400 megawatts of power for the production of energy from biomass, most associated with the industry of the cellulose, of which uses the excess. In addition, the expert said that Uruguay is currently one of the countries most involved in the exploitation of renewable energy in Latin America and since 2008 working on an energy policy in the short, medium and long term.
