War of photovoltaics, two weeks to negotiate peace US-China

24 October, 2014

(Rinnovabili.it) – The war of photovoltaics began between the two giants of the solar market has been going on now too. Yet, up to now, between the US and China we have not yet found a compromise. The US Department of Commerce revealed in mid-December its final determination on anti-dumping and countervailing those rules for imports of Chinese and Taiwanese PV modules and then any opportunity to sign a truce decisive will go up in smoke. To remember the few weeks that remain to the two countries to resolve the dispute is now John Smirnow, Vice President of the Trade and Competitiveness to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

Speaking from the stage of the Solar Power International in Las Vegas, Smirnov recalled that the Association has led the discussions between SolarWorld, the main petitioner in case anti Beijing, and the Chinese industry, in an attempt to find a negotiated solution to the latest tussle broke out on the import of solar modules. The Asian giant has in fact been accused of outsourced production by Taiwanese companies to avoid tariffs introduced in 2012 by the States. The remaining time is now short, and save reports the two contenders are expected to reach an agreement, the so-called "suspension mechanism", at least 30 days before the announcement of the final decision of the US Department. But, at least according to the words of the vice president, the route to the agreement would have all the credentials to end with a happy ending. The latest rumors would argue, in fact, the hypothesis that the matter can be resolved, like what happened between China and the European Union, introducing a minimum price for the Chinese photovoltaic modules sold in the US market and an import quota.
