The origin of the wind ... the sun: this warms the earth unevenly, given the harshness of the terrain (mountains, hills, canyons, etc.) and cause irregularities in the atmospheric pressure and the movement of air molecules from areas of high pressure to low pressure: this causes the wind and largely determines its not predictability. It is no coincidence that the winds more regular are those that blow over the oceans, where there are uneven surfaces and where many wind farms are being built ("Offshore").
Wind energy is exploited by man for more than 5,000 years to move boats, pumping water or grinding grain. The first windmills were built in China and Persia. In the ninth century, thanks to the hydraulic pumps to the wind, it was possible to make cultivable the driest regions of the United States and Australia, extracting water from underground aquifers: from 1850 to 1970, only the United States, have been installed more than 6 million wind turbine to pump water from underground.
Today's wind turbines are much larger and sophisticated of the ancient windmills. A traditional wind tower can reach the height of 100 meters, while a tower offshore reaches also the 180 meters - twice the Statue of Liberty - and is on average made up of 8,000 different items.
In the old incandescent bulbs, only 10% of the energy produced was used to light. The remaining 90% is dispersed into heat. The new energy-saving lamps instead have reversed this report.
